The type of baby food your baby takes can be controlled by preparing the own baby food. This will help you to assume the amount of sugar and spices entering your child’s body. These home made baby foods are cheaper than the ready made baby foods.

The things needed for making your own home made baby food is to have your own blender, food processor, baby food grinder or similar machine, a steamer or boiling pot and ice cube trays.

You can begin your home made baby food by introducing one fruit or vegetable per week. But make sure to have a look for any allergic reactions. Initially you can begin with less acidic fruits.

You must first wash the vegetables and fruits thoroughly and remove all the chemical residues. You can feed you baby with the fresh vegetables or fruits after steaming or boiling. For more nutritional value you must use fresh vegetables and fruits then go for freezing and canning. If the home made baby food is canned then do not use salt and use less spices.



If you are feeding smaller infants then puree the vegetables and fruits but it can be bit coarser for older ones .If you are feeding the infants for the first time then you need to strain the pureed food. Baby food maker can do this job.

The best way to protect your home made baby food is to place it in the ice tray and then cover it with plastic wrap and freeze. At meal time simply take out and allow thawing at room temperature and defrosting in the microwave for few seconds. By this technique week worth home made baby foods can be done easily at a time. As baby gets older puree macaroni, cheese, spaghetti, well cooked chicken and ham those to use as home made baby food to feed the child. Freeze them and then use. If you don’t defrost the thawed meat, there can be chances for the formation of E-coli bacteria.



Before you give any new kind of food to the baby consult your pediatrician. Cleanliness and food safety is a must with home made baby food. Always use clean hands and clean utensils while preparing home made baby foods. Don't worry if the baby doesn't take solid food 'on schedule'. WHO and AAP recommend that in addition to breast milk that infants must take complimentary home made foods at 6 months of age.
